| Project Description:
Constructed over a 25 m deep gorge, the Irvine River Bridge is located on David Street in the historic village of Elora, Ontario
The bridge has significant provincial heritage as well as economic importance to the community, and replicating the appearance of the existing bridge was a must to obtain approval prior to replacing it.
The new structure is now the fifth bridge in almost 140 years to be supported by the historic 1867 masonry pier.
Each arch rib was precast on site, then lifted into place with cranes located on both sides of the gorge.
The new bridge, completed in 2004 for the County of Wellington, was a winner of the 2005 Pre-Cast Concrete - Structural Design Innovation Awards.
